Vehicle Compatibility

RoadSense aims to work with as many vehicles as possible to create a more comprehensive and accurate data set for all our users. A key part of this compatibility is the use of On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) ports which is an essential requirement for our system to interconnect with your vehicle.

What is an OBD Port?

An OBD port is a standardized diagnostic port that allows the external electronics to interface with a vehicle's computer system. It can provide real-time data, including vehicle speed, engine load, fuel consumption, and more.

Vehicle Compatibility

RoadSense is compatible with all cars, trucks, and other vehicle categories that have an OBD port. Here's a general guide to when vehicles started having OBD ports in different regions.

  • United States: All cars and light trucks manufactured since 1996 (required by law).
  • Europe: Petrol vehicles manufactured from 2001 and diesel vehicles from 2004.
  • Australia: All vehicles from 2006 onwards.
  • Japan: Mostly from 2002 onwards, though some models from 1998-2001 may also have them.

Please note, this is a general guide only and some models may vary. If you are unsure whether your vehicle has an OBD port, please refer to your vehicle's manual or contact the manufacturer.

How to Connect?

Connecting your vehicle with RoadSense via the OBD port is a straightforward process. To find the port, look around the area under your steering wheel, or refer to the vehicle manual. Once you locate the port, simply plug in your OBD device, and pair with the RoadSense app on your mobile device. Now you're ready to contribute more detailed data and earn more Sense tokens!
